Luxury Fes Tours is delighted to take you on an exciting tour to The North Tower and the South Tower in Fez. They are museums of conventional weapons. They were and still are the largest observation post for the city of Fez, and they were the largest traditional artillery factory in the world. Near the towers, the ancient princes of Morocco built a prayer hall for Muslims, usually used on Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.
The name "Burj Al-Nour" is undoubtedly based on its "North" French name, as it is located north of the city. Sources did not mention this designation and only called it "Al-Burj" (The Tower). The name "tower of fire" is contained in some Moroccan Jewish texts: This designation indicates the nature of the military function of the museum, which was specially built to carry cannons of various sizes.
These two towers, located north of Fez Al-Bali, were built in 1582 CE by the Saadi. They derive their designs from the 16th-century Portuguese castles. The museums are currently embracing weapons.
The North and South Towers are the best military museums of Fez, both in terms of their general character and their location and dimensions.
Fez towers are divided into about 14 halls and 18 small rooms, where you will see large groups of weapons numbering about 5000, ranging from different stone weapons, swords, spears, iron shields and full armor, French and Portuguese guns, traditional large guns, and thick leather shield with simple graphics that dates back to the Bronze Age and is considered one of the most prominent exhibits in the museum.
